“Alone in the Water” begins with a young defense contractor waking up nude on a beach in Florida. He begins to wonder if maybe it isn’t time to grow up. At the same time, the DDG 79 is steaming alone at full speed, returning to the states from Istanbul. It is under orders to put on a “dog and pony” show for a 4th of July visit in New York City. The crew discovers a stowaway after it is too late to do anything but carry him to America and turn him over to the USCIS. When the President learns of the stowaway, he wants to meet the young man who so desperately wants to come to America. The President has his own political agenda in mind. The antagonists in the story have very different plans for this particular destroyer on this particular visit. They are a group of radical right wing extremists, part of the sovereign citizen’s movement, who call themselves American Revolution II. The group leaders have decided that the only way to get their message across is through domestic terrorism. A bomb is planted on the ship where it will cause a mass detonation of the missile magazine while the ship is pier-side in New York City.
